I researched this to find out about the success of the industry and their USP's, to become aware of my competitors and how their apps work. I did this by researching popular food delivery services, such as JustEat and UberEats, and also downloading their apps.
I found out that the food delivery industry is a massively growing industry, with around $9.9 billion spent on delivery services in a year in the USA. It's also becoming very popular in the UK, with £30 spent per person per month on food delivery. It has created 41, 000 new jobs since the apps to order from came out 7 years ago. In addition, I have also learnt that many people prefer to order online than picking up the food, because it has many more benefits. For example, staying in the comfort of your home, not having to move or go anywhere and using coupons or discounts (also not having to worry about driving after having a few drinks).
JustEat have grown more than 100% in a year, with their company shares now valued at £2.8 billion. They take 2000 orders per minute, and it generated £546 million in 2017. I was also able to find out about how food delivery services connect with the public, for example, JustEat sponsored a small local football team and they currently sponsor 'Bike Hire'. These both suggest that JustEat is trying to associate being environmentally friendly with their company.

This research benefited me because I found out what was relevant in the industry and what people look for the most in food delivery services. I understood that it was important to show the simplicity of using the app when your ordering. JustEat had a vision of a global food community and I wanted to create a strong brand message just like that - my brand message is that people become closer together and happier once they've ordered YourFood.
